Alan Arkin, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine in Going in Style
Of book covers and snap judgments...Warner Bros.

3 Stars (Time Well Spent)Why I Saw It: Press screening, prepping for the Critics Circle this weekend, and love the cast (most especially Arkin).
What I Thought: It does have one scene that veers into the ridiculous like an SNL skit that goes on too long, but other than that it’s a solid and enjoyable caper flick. Exceptionally impressive is its modern take on life – the situation reflects challenges people today actually face, and there were no tired old jokes about bodily functions or curmudgeonly cane-waving. Physical infirmities received only the matter-of-fact attention they would naturally garner, characters use technology skillfully and comfortably, and age presents no reason stop being at the helm of one’s own life. Bravo! Pair it with Hell or High Water and Tower Heist.

Going in Style. Dir. Rupert Sanders. Perf. Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Alan Arkin, Ann-Margret, John Ortiz, Peter Serafinowicz, Joey King, Maria Dizzia, Josh Pais, Kenan Thompson, Christopher Lloyd. Warner Bros., 2017.

Reboot of the 1979 comedy, about three older adults who take matters into their own hands after their pension fund is looted.
