Hell hath no fury like a Joker scornedWarner Bros.
Why I Saw It: Press screening, and doing my homework for appearing on the Houston Film Critics Society radio show, What I Thought: Over-stimulation for the eyes (hence the brain – I hate a stream of imagery being fed into my mind too quickly to be focused on and processed…). But that said, it’s jam packed with more witty lines and film references than you can possibly imagine (which I adore – despite the fact that they’re too rapid-fire to stay in short-term memory). I may be overthinking this entire thing (but not really – the filmmakers certainly put a great deal of thought – and talent – into this extravaganza of goodness). 5 stars and unmissable for superhero/comics fans.
The LEGO Batman Movie. Dir. Chris McKay. Perf. Will Arnett, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson, Zach Galifianakis, Jenny Slate. Warner Bros., 2017.
Loner Batman finds himself professionally and personally challenged when beloved Gotham decides it doesn’t need him anymore, even as the pesky individuals around him (including the Joker) are pressing for deeper connection with him.
