Perennial issue for such fare - wa-a-a-ay too many storylinesLionsgate
Why I Saw It: Presented itself in the moment, Lionsgate is a go-to distributor, and was hoping that the stellar cast (including many personal favorites) could buttress any weakness in the script (as films of this ilk are wont to have). What I Thought: Nope. The perennial problem carries the day – too many storylines amid tired emotional tropes, turning substantive stories into rocks skipping across a pond (same as befell the otherwise delightful Almost Christmas).
Love the Coopers. Dir. Jessie Nelson. Perf. Diane Keaton, John Goodman, Alan Arkin, Marisa Tomei, June Squibb, Anthony Mackie, Amanda Seyfried, Ed Helms, Olivia Wilde, Jake Lacey, Alex Borstein, Timothée Chalamet, Steve Martin. Lionsgate, 2015.
Several generations of a family come together for Christmas, all trying hide (or at least manage) the emotional minefields known as their lives.
