Loyalty
- A feeling or attitude of devoted attachment and affection.
Loyalty falls along the continuum between Ethics and Love & Attachment. It’s most uplifting when felt with affection, certainly, but loyalty can be deeply held absent any particular esteem for its object, as it can spring from one’s own sense of the circumstances (parenthood, comrade in arms, personal code of ethics, respect for the office, etc.) as easily as from one’s feelings toward the person or principle. Without love can be loyalty; without love can be ethics; without loyalty come betrayal and anarchy. Following are excellent illustrations of people discovering it, displaying it, and disregarding it.
