The Ottoman Lieutenant
Like the film, this shot should reverberate with passion, but just doesn'tPaladin

Low 3 Stars (Time Fairly Well Spent)Why I Saw It: Press screening, and preparing for being on the Critics Circle this Saturday.
What I Thought: It wanted so badly to echo the sweeping romance of The English Patient or Out of Africa, but simply doesn’t pull it off. Might have had a chance with Hailee Steinfeld in the lead (she was well suited, and her strength can cover a multitude of sins), but don’t count Game of Thrones‘ Michiel Huisman out yet. He was just fine, this isn’t on his doorstep.

The Ottoman Lieutenant. Dir. Joseph Ruben. Perf. Michiel Huisman, Hera Hilmar, Josh Hartnett, Ben Kingsley. Paladin, 2017.

Period drama about the forbidden romance between an idealistic American nurse and a Turkish officer during WWI.
