Disclosures

As a member of the reviewing press and Houston Film Critics Society, I routinely screen and review movies in advance of their wide release. I am under no obligation either to screen a particular film or to cover it, and while I may receive compensation from the outlet on which a piece appears, I receive no compensation from the filmmakers or promoters. In all cases, my opinions are editorially independent and entirely my own.

Occasionally I’ll recommend a product or service not my own, and may receive a small financial benefit from this in the form of an affiliate payment. However, this will never affect the price you would pay for the product or in any other way affect you. If that causes discomfort for any reason, it’s no problem. You can just Google the item itself and go straight to the product’s website without clicking my link. I never recommend anything I haven’t personally used and found beneficial, and I’m never paid for my opinion. I’m just passing along the goodness, thinking that if it appeals to me, you may enjoy it as well.

If you click a link that takes you to ReelHappiness.com, then of course I’ll receive compensation for any purchases made there, seeing as it’s my site and I created everything on it. 🙂 You’ll easily find the terms, privacy, and refund info when you get there.

Finally, because I mention them often and enthusiastically, a disclosure regarding the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema seems in order. I receive no compensation of any kind for your participation with the Drafthouse – I just love ’em and have a tendency to gush where they’re concerned.

Intellectual Property

I take the intellectual property conversation extremely seriously; to me, it’s the ultimate representation of creativity, cooperation, and common decency in action. I don’t want anyone taking credit for my work, and I strive to remain above reproach in my dealings with others.

3Rollers, 1Role Wonders, 10+ Titans, and other site graphics, logos, and service names are trademarks of Lisa Elin. These may not be used in connection with any product or service that is not mine, in any manner that is likely to cause confusion among customers, or in any manner that disparages or discredits Film is Life or myself.

No portion of the content at FilmIsLIfe.com or its accompanying materials may be used in any form without my explicit written permission in advance. That said, if you’d like to collaborate in some way, I very much welcome that conversation. Please simply contact me and we’ll go from there.

All images and clips on this site fall into one of four categories. Either I have (1) made them myself from scratch, (2) purchased a license, (3) been granted permission, or (4) employed them under the Fair Use clause of the copyright code.

The writing is all, entirely, originally, unequivocally mine. At some point I may include guest contributors, in which case they’ll be celebrated and made abundantly obvious.

If you feel I have incorporated your intellectual property in error, I want to correct this immediately. Please send me a takedown request via email describing the details, and send supporting documentation confirming your ownership to me via postal carrier. All my contact information may be found here.

Terms & Disclaimers

Although I as the author/publisher strive to provide accurate content, I cannot guarantee that the information on this website or in the accompanying materials is free of errors. The website includes links to third parties, and I may recommend products by third parties for which affiliate compensation may be received. I have no control over or responsibility for the activities of these third parties, and your use of their websites and products is entirely at your own discretion. In using this website and its accompanying materials, you agree never to share, reproduce, or disseminate the information in any form without express written permission from me, except for brief excerpts in public reviews, or copies made for personal use.

Dispute Resolution

By using this site, you agree to its stated policies. Any dispute shall be construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas; each party to this agreement submits to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts having jurisdiction in the County of Harris in the State of Texas, and waives any jurisdictional, venue, or inconvenient forum objections to such courts. (In other words, we’ll handle it here in Houston; I’m sure we’d iron things out way before this, but my health prevents me from traveling so I’m calling dibs that we’d deal with it here.)
